Philosophy is the mother of science from which emerged most of the sciences and for this the civilization of peoples measured by the extent of progress in philosophical sciences and the depth of thinking in these societies as the scientific progress in societies is linked to the ability to think properly and the trend towards analysis and adherence and rejection of tradition and imitation of the other, hence the importance of philosophy for Libyan society and other societies, hence the motivation to establish this section and prepare for the service of society And the advancement of his thinking and the value of rational thinking and positive trends in it The task of philosophy in society is not simple since the dawn of history to this day since civilizations were based on the thought of philosophers and thinkers and was not without civilization of the contribution of philosophical thought in it, for example, but not limited to, the Greek civilization was based on philosophers and thinkers such as the Stoics and Abafurians, Thales, Plato and Aristotle, while the Islamic civilization has emerged in which philosophers and thinkers distinguished throughout its history such as Ibn Sina, Al-Farabi, Al-Kindi, Ibn Rushd and others. From this point of view, the Department of Philosophy seeks to present philosophical thought to its students in a smooth manner and inform them of the various philosophical intellectual currents in the antiquity, medieval, modern and contemporary times in order to refine their intellectual talents and form them intellectual formation and prepare them logically and mentally in order to continue their postgraduate studies in this field as well as to establish a mental intellectual renaissance that we are in dire need of in building our new civilization.

Description


 The Department of Philosophy is one of the basic departments, as this department was opened in 1999, as one of the departments of Gharyan University (formerly) according to the decision of the Assistant Secretary for Services Affairs previously No. (219) for the year 1430, then it became one of the departments of the Faculty of Arts Gharyan (formerly) according to the decision of the Secretary of the Gharyan People previously No. (351) for the year The departments of Gharyan University were changed to colleges, so this department became one of the departments of the Faculty of Arts, Gharyan University, In 2013, the name of the college was changed, so this department became one of the departments of the Faculty of Arts Al-Asab, Gharyan University, and a group of graduates graduated from this department since 2003 until now. 

Vision


Excellence in the field of philosophical studies in all its theoretical and applied branches, and the delivery of clear and correct information to the student, which is the main goal in philosophical research, and the continuous development of learning processes and scientific research for the fields of philosophy, and addressing community issues through study and analysis through the quality of education provided to the student to achieve excellence and advancement, and this is done in harmony with the general vision of the School of Humanities in particular and in full compatibility with the general vision of the Libyan Academy.

Mission


 The department seeks to disseminate knowledge and cultural development, and to update curricula in line with the perception in various fields of philosophical knowledge, and the department seeks to form and graduate cadres capable of serving the community, which enables them to fill the opportunities available to work in this field.

Goals


  1. Teaching subjects of interest to specialization, serving community issues and directives, and cooperating with specialists in other university colleges in order to develop courses to serve the philosophy of society.
  2. Studying the history of human thought through different ages, trying to evaluate it and familiarize itself with what it has provided to humanity, and benefiting from this in the progress of our society, in addition to studying, comparing and enriching the various ancient and modern intellectual currents.
  3.  Focusing on deep thinking and reflection through the thinking of man himself, and the duties entrusted to him in society.
  4. Work to acquire methods and methodology to defend freedom of thought, respect for the opinions of others, tolerance, expose deception and invisible loyalty, respond to those with fanatical and narrow ideas, maintain the expansion of the human horizon and stay away from tribal, sectarian, and sectarian fanaticism.
  5. Enlighten students about different currents of thought and form positive attitudes towards society by accustoming them to the use of a comprehensive view in analyzing life topics.
  6. Emphasizing the link between life and social philosophy, by providing students with the opportunity to use their linguistic and intellectual skills in analyzing ideas, understanding them, and moving away from memorization and memorization.
  7. Emphasizing freedom of thought and avoiding intellectual fanaticism, and forming the ability for sound mental dialogue so that the student can interpret the issues that occur in society, in order to determine a positive attitude towards them. 
  8. Highlight the difference between philosophical and other methods, and use constructive criticism in dealing with topics related to human life rather than accepting them as they are.
  9. Highlighting the importance of searching for truth in human life and its role in the progress of society, by emphasizing the laying of the foundations for true faith that depends on the Holy Quran and the purified Sunnah of the Prophet.
